January 2026 Recap

January brought some cooler temps and some clear water. It is a great time of year because any time of the day can be good to catch them! The warmer days that lead up to the cold fronts tend to be the best, but the days following the fronts when everything glasses off can be an amazing time to see some redfish tailing with their nose down digging in the mud. These are the days too where you can see the schools of fish in the water because it is so clear. I am still throwing topwater, my favorite is the She Dog in bone/chrome, but others like Mansfield Knockers and Spook Jrs also produce very well. When the water is clear and the sun is out is when I like to throw clear and bright baits, when the water is clear and it is darker conditions is when I like to throw darker/more natural baits. Trout and redfish can be found mingled together on flats, reefs and dropoffs!
